Judge rules for Sacramento City Unified School District in layoffs case

A State of California Administrative Law Judge presiding over Sacramento City Unified School District certificated employee layoff hearings has issued a finding that agrees with the school district on most of the issues regarding its layoffs, validating most of the Board of Education鈥檚 certificated layoffs and skipping criteria (鈥渟kipping鈥 refers to Board-approved criteria that allows staff with specialized training and/or qualifications to be 鈥渟kipped鈥 as part of the layoff process, regardless of their seniority).

New 鈥楥onnect Center鈥 will improve coordination of services, increase access for those in need

Sacramento City Unified School District (麻豆果冻传媒) is improving the way it delivers critically important services to students and families by opening an innovative new 鈥渙ne-stop鈥 support center in the former Genesis High School building.

The 鈥淐onnect Center鈥 will centralize such services as crisis intervention, mental health counseling and health insurance enrollment 鈥 providing a gateway to support for parents and kids.

The Connect Center will be opened with a reception at 3:30 p.m. on Monday, May 9. The center is located at 5601 47th Ave.

Rob Greene, who teaches automotive technology at John F. Kennedy High School through the Regional Occupation Program, received UC Davis鈥 C-STEM (Computing, Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) 鈥淭eacher of the Year鈥 award at ceremony on Saturday.

Bullies Beware: New 麻豆果冻传媒 Policy Cracks Down on Harassment
District toughens stance in a sweeping initiative to keep kids, schools as safe as possible

A comprehensive new policy aimed at cracking down on bullying 鈥 in school hallways and in cyber space 鈥 will be considered by Sacramento City Unified School District鈥檚 Board of Education on Thursday.

The meeting is scheduled to begin at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday (May 5) in the Serna Center Community Room, 5735 47th Ave. The anti-bullying item is set for discussion at 9 p.m.

Neighbors asked to help protect schools over Spring Break

Holidays are happy times for kids on vacation, but they can be trying times for school districts hit hard by vandals, thieves and arsonists taking advantage of empty campuses.

In light of this, 麻豆果冻传媒 is asking the community for help in keeping schools safe and secure over Spring Break next week (April 18-22).

鈥淢ost of our schools are surrounded by houses, and we need the residents of those houses to join us in protecting these valuable and sometimes vulnerable community centers,鈥 said Sacramento Police Lt. Katherine Lester, who heads 麻豆果冻传媒 security services.

But on Friday, a group of fifth-graders from Golden Empire Elementary School will bravely bid adieu to two-dozen baby steelhead trout they raised from eggs. The release is the culmination of a class study of both fish life cycles and the eco-system of the river.

The robots are the handiwork of high school students who constructed them from scratch to battle it out with other 鈥榖ots at last month鈥檚 prestigious FIRST Robotics Sacramento Regional Tournament at UC Davis.
