Community Advisory Committees (CAC)
Community Advisory Committees (CACs) are a vital component of effective Special Education programs in California. They are commissioned by law and are a reflection of the community they serve. CACs are composed of parents, educators, pupils and adults with disabilities, representatives of public and private agencies, and persons concerned with the needs of individuals with disabilities. They are appointed by their governing boards in accordance with locally determined selection procedures described in the Local Plan.
SELPA Local Plan Assurances
There are currently 23 Federal and Local Assurances to which each SELPA and member Local Education Agency (LEA) must adhere. In approving the Local Plan, SELPA and each member LEA agrees that they will uphold each of these assurances, and they must cite the location of each corresponding local policy and procedure.
They read as follows:
The Individuals with Disabilities Education Act 20 United States Code (20 USC) Section 1400 et seq. and related federal regulations, require each special education local plan area (SELPA) to ensure a continuum of program options are available to meet the needs of students with disabilities for special education and related services.
