STANFORD, Calif.鈥斅槎构炒 Children鈥檚 Health has been designated a Diagnostic Imaging Center of Excellence庐 (DICOE) by the American College of Radiology (ACR). The DICOE program, which represents the pinnacle of medical imaging care, is an achievement that goes beyond accreditation to recognize top-quality imaging practices and diagnostic care.
鈥淭his is an exciting time for our team,鈥 says Shreyas Vasanawala, MD, PhD, radiologist in chief at Stanford Children鈥檚 and the William R. Brody Professor of Pediatric Radiology and Child Health at Stanford University. 鈥淲e went through a very comprehensive evaluation to ensure that we鈥檙e meeting the high standards of the ACR for providing imaging-based care鈥攏ot only in image acquisition, but also in professionalism, image interpretation, clinical competency, radiation management, and a whole host of safety metrics to achieve this distinction.鈥
The ACR survey team comprehensively assessed the pediatric radiology program across all imaging modalities: radiography, fluoroscopy, ultrasound, computed tomography, MRI, nuclear medicine, and interventional radiology. As Stanford Children鈥檚 imaging services is a DICOE facility, the team:
鈥淧atients can be assured that there is strong focus on quality at our facility,鈥 Dr. Vasanawala says. 鈥淔or instance, not only does each MRI scanner undergo testing on a regular basis to ensure the accuracy of its images, but also we have a rigorous peer learning process to continually improve and give our patients the best care possible.鈥
During the review process, ACR surveyors recognized the Stanford Children鈥檚 imaging services team for its excellence in organization and governance structure, partnership with operations and medical leadership under each modality, MRI safety practices, and electronic logging systems for quality control and environmental surveying.
