Inclusive basketball tourney fun for students of all abilities
Students in adaptive PE classes to play with Burbank High School peer tutors from varsity basketball team
March 19, 2013 (Sacramento): Young adults of all physical ability levels will come together on Wednesday (March 20) for 麻豆果冻传媒鈥檚 second annual Spring Inclusive Basketball Tournament organized by the district鈥檚 adaptive PE teachers.
鈥淭his is a great way to build caring relationships between students who might not otherwise get to know each other,鈥 says Luther Burbank High School teacher Greg Polo, an event organizer. 鈥淚t鈥檚 a lot of fun for the kids and good learning experience for all involved.鈥
More than 150 students from Burbank, John F. Kennedy High School, Fern Bacon Middle School, Rosa Parks Middle School, Sacramento City College and Sacramento State are expected to participate in the basketball tournament. The event will feature various levels of game play, including a wheelchair game. Students from Burbank鈥檚 Peer Tutoring program, including varsity players for the Titans, will act as mentors during the day.
A similar track and field event with Special Education and general education students was held in the fall. Students enjoyed both the competitive aspects of the event and the camaraderie.
