SACRAMENTO鈥擲acramento City Unified Schools are joining Read Across America celebrations across the country. Fans of beloved children鈥檚 author Theodor Seuss Geisel, better known as Dr. Seuss, will celebrate his 113th birthday on Thursday, March 2, 2017. His books and influence on young readers far and wide is recognized each year by The National Education Association (NEA). To celebrate reading and honor Dr. Seuss, the NEA established Read Across America Day on Dr. Seuss鈥 birthday as an annual nationwide celebration of reading.

Jan. 25, 2017 (Sacramento):  Decades-old Kit Carson Middle School is looking for a name to match its students as the campus evolves into a high school.

Kit Carson Vice Principal Rich Haley who serves on the committee charged with bringing recommendations to the Sacramento City Unified School District said the group has begun gathering input from the community. 鈥淲e want to know what the community wants 鈥 whether we should adopt a totally new name or only tweak the name by dropping the middle school designation,鈥 Haley said.
