To Eliminate Budget Deficit And Protect Funding For Students, Sac City Unified Board of Education and Superintendent Call On Employees To Make 鈥淪hared Sacrifices鈥

The Sacramento City Unified School District announced in a video statement on Wednesday that it has managed to find millions in cost savings, with most cuts being made away from the classroom. However, Superintendent Aguilar and Board President Jessie Ryan warned that these cuts will not be enough to entirely address the district鈥檚 structural deficit. Both leaders called on district employees to rise to the occasion and make shared sacrifices to eliminate the structural budget deficit. .

Sac City Schools Are Keeping Students Indoors Due To Poor Air Quality

UPDATED 11/14/18 @ 8:05 P.M. - Our schools will remain open Thursday, November 15th. We understand that many of our families count on us to provide students with a safe and supervised environment to go to during the day. We take this responsibility very seriously and before making the decision to keep our schools open, we did check on the air quality conditions at our schools and consulted with leadership at the Sacramento Air Quality Management District.

What: After decades of playing on an old and outdated field, student athletes at Hiram Johnson High School can finally celebrate the grand opening of a new athletic field and facility paid for with voter approved bond money. To celebrate the grand opening of the new field, members of the Sacramento City Unified Board of Education, Superintendent, student athletes, coaches, teachers and school staff will be holding a ribbon cutting ceremony.

Sacramento City Unified Board of Education Approves 2018-19 School District Budget, Faces $24.3M Deficit

SACRAMENTO, CA 鈥 On Thursday night, the Sacramento City Unified Board of Education unanimously approved a $555.3 million budget for the upcoming fiscal year. In recent years the district has been facing a number of significant cost increases to cover its obligations, including a state-mandated increase in the amount school districts have to pay for pension contributions administered by CalPERS and CalSTRS and rising health care costs. To balance the budget, the district projects it will need to spend $24.3 million from its reserves in the 2018-19 fiscal year.

To kick-off , Sacramento City Unified School District鈥檚 Food Literacy Program will be announcing that Raley鈥檚 has awarded $72,000 to the program. The Food Literacy Center inspires and teaches low-income elementary children to eat their vegetables by teaching them to cook and the importance of nutrition to improve our health, environment and economy. The programs mission is to inspire kids to make healthier food choices.
