Neighbors asked to help protect schools over Thanksgiving recess
Metal thieves, vandals prey on schools during the holidays

Sacramento:  The holidays are a busy time of year 鈥 especially for vandals, thieves and arsonists looking to take advantage of empty school campuses.

In light of this, 麻豆果冻传媒 is asking the community for help in keeping schools safe and secure over the Thanksgiving break (November 21-25).

鈥淢ost of our schools are surrounded by homes, and we need those neighbors to join us in protecting these valuable and sometimes vulnerable community centers,鈥 said Sacramento Police Lt. Katherine Lester, who heads 麻豆果冻传媒 security services.

Hubert H. Bancroft Elementary School reception on Thursday pays tribute to those who served their country

Students at Hubert H. Bancroft Elementary School will honor local veterans with patriotic songs, poems and tributes at a ceremony on Thursday 鈥 the day before Veteran鈥檚 Day.

The tribute, an annual event at the school, helps connect children to the community and helps them to develop an appreciation for the men and women who have served in the military, said choir teacher Eileen Boyd, who is organizing the event.

McClatchy Alum Killed in Iraq to be Honored at Saturday鈥檚 鈥楤ell Game鈥
Family, school to be presented with plaque from Fallen Warriors; scholarship established in Sgt. Duplantier鈥檚 name

With Veteran鈥檚 Day approaching, a C.K. McClatchy High School alumnus killed in Iraq will be honored on Saturday with the announcement of a scholarship in his name.

Sgt. Arnold Duplantier II was killed by sniper fire while on patrol in Baghdad on June 22, 2005 鈥 just days after his 26th birthday. Sgt. Duplantier had previously served in Kuwait in 2002. He left behind a wife, two children and his mother and father.
