Our Attendance and Engagement office has provided a toolkit with ideas to decrease chronic absenteeism and promote daily attendance (page 1).
Page 2 is a letter template. Please feel free to use language from this letter in your messaging to families to help reinforce the importance of going to school every day.

Student Attendance is at an all-time low. Almost 40% of our students missed so much school last year they were chronically absent, COVID has confused everyone. Families think school is 鈥渙ptional鈥. Students have gotten out of the routine of attending class every day. So now what? We must PRIORITIZE attendance & engagement and message its importance NOW! The CARE team created this simple toolkit to help plan and organize Attendance Awareness month. Let鈥檚 remind our community that school attendance MATTERS!
2022-23 Back to School Night & Open House

Back to School
All schools should begin to schedule and prepare for their Back to School Night. Back to School Night should be held between September 6th and September 29th.
Open House
Open House should be held between April 18th and May 4th (not Spring Break is April 3rd through 7th).

SHPD Behavior Hearing Trainings on August 24th and 25th
All Grades
The Student Hearing and Placement Department will host two behavior review training sessions. Sessions will be held on:
- Wednesday, August 24th at 10:00 a.m.
- Thursday, August 25th at 2:00 p.m.
All new administrators are strongly encouraged to attend. In addition, administrators not familiar with the hearing process should attend.
