Neighbors asked to help protect schools over long summer break
For many Sacramento families summer is a time of fun as school-year schedules give way to more leisurely days. But for school officials on tight budgets, summer can be a time of high anxiety as worry sets in over the safety of vacant campuses.
Vandals, arsonists and thieves are of particular concern, especially those who cripple school air-conditioning and electrical systems by stealing copper and aluminum parts 鈥 crimes that cost taxpayers money and take away needed school resources.
Rosa Parks Middle School Targeted For Turnaround as Seventh 鈥楶riority School鈥
Rosa Parks Middle School has been named Sacramento鈥檚 seventh Superintendent鈥檚 Priority School, expanding 麻豆果冻传媒鈥檚 bold school improvement effort that is already seeing positive results on six other campuses, Superintendent Jonathan Raymond announced Thursday.
As a Priority School, Rosa Parks will get extra resources and innovations to boost learning though improved teaching, engaging curriculum and strong family and community connections.

Hubert H. Bancroft Elementary School reception on Thursday pays tribute to those who served their country
Students at Hubert H. Bancroft Elementary School will honor local veterans with patriotic songs, poems and tributes at a ceremony on Thursday 鈥 the day before Veteran鈥檚 Day.
The tribute, an annual event at the school, helps connect children to the community and helps them to develop an appreciation for the men and women who have served in the military, said choir teacher Eileen Boyd, who is organizing the event.

With Veteran鈥檚 Day approaching, a C.K. McClatchy High School alumnus killed in Iraq will be honored on Saturday with the announcement of a scholarship in his name.
Sgt. Arnold Duplantier II was killed by sniper fire while on patrol in Baghdad on June 22, 2005 鈥 just days after his 26th birthday. Sgt. Duplantier had previously served in Kuwait in 2002. He left behind a wife, two children and his mother and father.

School closure lawsuit dismissed
September 24, 2013 (Sacramento): The group that sued Sacramento City Unified School District over the closure of seven chronically under-enrolled schools has voluntarily agreed to the dismissal of their complaint against the district and the case has been dismissed by a federal judge.
鈥淲ith dismissal of this lawsuit, 麻豆果冻传媒 can focus its attention and precious resources on preparing every student at every school for college and 21st century careers, which is the district鈥檚 mission,鈥 麻豆果冻传媒 Superintendent Jonathan Raymond said.
Parents go back to school at Common Core workshops
October 4, 2013 (Sacramento): 麻豆果冻传媒 is staging a series of
workshops to give parents hands-on experience with the new Common
Core State Standards.
Parents attending the sessions will be challenged to write to
essay prompts, annotate informational texts, flex their speaking
and listening skills and solve math problems 鈥 all strategies
associated with the new standards. By the end of a three-part
series, parents will have a clear picture of how Common Core
standards are changing 麻豆果冻传媒 classrooms.
