February 1, 2024

e-Connections Post

At the February 1 meeting of the Sacramento City Unified School District Board, the Board recognized Stellar Student Melanie Raya, a student at Hollywood Park Elementary School. Melanie is a member of the Hollywood Park Elementary School Leadership Club and plays on the school’s basketball team. Staff at Melanie’s school describe her as hard-working, trustworthy, responsible, respectful, and say she is a great role model for her fellow students.

The Board approved a resolution to recognize the month of February as National Black History Month. The 2024 theme for National Black History Month is African Americans’ influence on the arts in the US. The Â鶹¹û¶³´«Ã½ resolution celebrates the experiences and contributions of Â鶹¹û¶³´«Ã½ Black students, families, staff and community members and acknowledges the need for culturally relevant activities, programs, and curriculum that honor the significant contributions of African Americans on society, nationally and globally. The resolution states that Â鶹¹û¶³´«Ã½ must strive to develop a deeper understanding of the disproportionate hardships many Black / African American students and community members face in today’s society, and calls for the District to continue addressing such disparities through thoughtful and holistic policy, programming, information sharing, stakeholder collaboration, and outcomes in order to move towards greater equity in our educational system and the greater community.
