麻豆果冻传媒 Board of Education Recap

The Board received an informational update on 麻豆果冻传媒鈥檚 Middle School Mathletes program which engages students in grade 7-8 in challenging math competitions. SDUSD鈥檚 middle school teams worked with their teacher leaders and teammates to practice and compete monthly. The Board congratulated the top scoring students from each school:
- Albert Einstein Middle School: Tre Shelby
- Genevieve Didion K-8: Julia Parr
- Will C Wood Middle School: Nicole Ly
- Leonardo da Vinci K-8: Emmett Weiner
- Sam Brannan Middle School: Jax Lytle
- Miwok Middle School: Julia Song
The Board approved the appointment of Cindi Swindle as Principal of John Morse Therapeutic Center.
The Board took action to allocate $250,000 for one year to help support the City of Sacramento鈥檚 SacRT Student Program that allows students to ride public transportation at no cost.
The Board heard a presentation from the District鈥檚 Student Advisory Council, a youth-led organization of high school students from across 麻豆果冻传媒. Students on the Council learn about data and evaluation strategies, grassroots organizing, and policy advocacy. As part of their culminating project, students presented their data, research findings, and recommendations to the 麻豆果冻传媒 board of education. The 23-24 Student Advisory Council has multiple policy recommendations ranging from menstrual and campus hygiene, gender neutral restroom accessibility, environmental sustainability, and improving dual enrollment access and supports.
The Board approved a resolution recommended by the Student Advisory Council that seeks to further enhance the district鈥檚 environmental sustainability efforts, specifically food waste reduction and recycling efforts.
The Board received informational updates on the State Seal of Civic Engagement and the State Seal of Biliteracy. The California State Seal of Civic Engagement recognizes high school graduates who have demonstrated excellence in civic engagement by working towards and advocating for meaningful solutions to a community or social problem. The California State Seal of Biliteracy is an official recognition of multilingual language skills for high school seniors.
The Board approved a resolution in support of LGBTQ+ Pride Month to highlight the contributions of the LGBTQ+ community, to combat bullying and harassment based on sexual orientation and gender expression, and to promote and foster a safe and respectful culture for all within the District.
The Board held public hearings on the following topics:
- The draft of the District鈥檚 2024-25 Local Control and Accountability Plan (LCAP.) The LCAP is intended to be a comprehensive planning tool to address student needs and support positive student outcomes, and is a guide to the district鈥檚 budget priorities. The LCAP is developed in partnership with the community and educational partners. The Board is expected to take action at the June 20, 2024 Board of Education meeting to approve the District鈥檚 updated LCAP.
- The drafts of the 2024-25 LCAPs for each of the District鈥檚 locally-funded or 鈥渄ependent鈥 charters. The Board is expected to take action at the June 20, 2024 Board of Education meeting to approve the updated LCAPs for these charter schools.
- The proposed Fiscal Year 2024-2025 District Budget. The state requires that the District budget be adopted and submitted to the County Office of Education by June 30th. The 2024-2025 budget establishes expenditure authority for the District to conduct business in the coming year.
- The Board held a public hearing on a Resolution to approve a utilities easement at Nicholas Elementary as part of the new construction at that site. The Board approved the Resolution with their approval of the meeting鈥檚 Consent Agenda.
- The Board also held a public hearing and then took action to approve proposed salary improvements for non-represented, confidential and management employees for the 2023-24 and 2024-25 fiscal years.
The Board took action to approve an agreement that provides the District with the option to purchase a 9.88 acre school site within the bounds of the Delta Shores project.
