At the November 2 meeting of the Sacramento City Unified School District Board, the Board approved the appointments of Holly Buckley as Principal of Arthur A. Benjamin Health Professions High School, and Dr. Edward Eldridge as Executive Director of Â鶹¹û¶³´«Ã½â€™s Local Control and Accountability Plan (LCAP). The Board also approved Board Member appointees to serve on the District’s Community Schools Advisory Committee.

The Board recognized students from Bowling Green Chacon Elementary and Pacific Elementary as Stellar Students. Students in Ms. Chavez-Mendoza’s class and Ms. O’Brien and Mr. Martinez’s classes at Chacon, and Ms. Bettencourt’s class and Mr. Martin’s class at Pacific learned about sustainability and environmental justice, collected and analyzed data in their classrooms and schoolyard, designed a data driven solution to an issue they identified, and took action to create positive, lasting change in their school community and environment. Each class applied for and was awarded an Eco-Rise mini-grant.

The Board took action to approve Resolutions for:

  • National School Bus Safety Week to highlight the importance of school bus safety.
     
  • Veterans Day to recognize the veterans in the Sacramento City Unified School District who serve as parents, educators, support staff, administrators and in other capacities and to honor the men and women of our Armed Forces. 
     
  • Native American Heritage month to commemorate the history, heritage, and culture of Native Americans and Alaskan Natives and acknowledge the vast achievements of America’s original indigenous people.

The Board approved a public hearing and adoption of the District’s initial proposals and received initial proposals from labor partners United Professional Educators, Teamsters Classified Supervisors, and Teamsters Local 150 for collective bargaining agreement negotiations.

The Board also approved a public hearing and heard a report on the District’s compliance with the Pupil Textbook and Instructional Materials Incentive Program Act, and received updates on the District’s Culturally Responsive Professional Learning, the planned discontinuation of CIF Multi-School Agreements, and the District’s facilities plan.

The Board approved the District’s plan to issue 2023 General Obligation Refunding Bonds, up to a maximum principal amount of $201.85 million. The Board also voted to table until its December meeting an item about the search firms under consideration to assist the District with a Superintendent search process.
